Statement of Faith

A close up of the word faith in a dictionaryThe Bible

The Bible is the Word of the true and living God. It was inspired by the Holy Spirit who moved in the hearts and minds of the men who wrote it so that the very words came from God. We believe it was therefore inerrant as inspired in the original languages and is the absolute, supreme, and final authority for the church in matters of faith and life.

God

God is the Creator of the heavens and the earth. His essence is described as being self-existent, self-sufficient, eternal, and Spirit. His attributes include omnipotence (having all-power), omniscience (being all-knowing), omnipresence (being present everywhere), and immutability (unchanging). His moral qualities include holiness (absolute moral purity), righteousness, justice, truth, love, and goodness. He alone presides over and maintains the functioning of the entire universe. And he has chosen to reveal himself to mankind in nature, conscience, the Bible, and in the Person and life of Jesus Christ. He exists eternally in three Persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is God the Son, the second Person of the Trinity. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, is truly man and at the same time “very God of very God,” lived a sinless life, was crucified for our sins, died, was buried, and rose from the dead on the third day. He then ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father. He will come again to judge believers and unbelievers, and his kingdom shall have no end.

Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Trinity. He convicts people of their sin and draws them to Christ. He comes to indwell new believers at the time of the new birth. He teaches, corrects, guides, and empowers believers to live the Christian life. He authored the Bible through holy men.

Mankind

Man was originally created in the image of God, but fell from God’s favor when he sinned. As a consequence, he became alienated from God, became spiritually dead in trespasses and sins, suffered temporal punishment, experienced physical death, and became deserving of eternal punishment. His sin resulted in the moral corruption of human nature, a condition of moral depravity which has been transmitted down through the ages to the entire human race from Adam, the first man. Thus all persons have a sin nature and are inclined to sin against God and are in need of salvation.

Salvation

All who acknowledge and repent of their sins, pray to receive Jesus Christ into their heart as Lord and Savior, and confess him before men, are born again by the work of the Holy Spirit and thereby become children of God.

The Church

The church of Jesus Christ is composed of those who have received Christ by faith and have been born again. As believers, they are to worship and serve God and live a holy life.

The Sacraments

Jesus Christ instituted the sacraments of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper to be observed till he returns.

Eternity

All those who have surrendered and trusted their life to Christ as Lord and Savior will spend eternity with him and the Father in a place of everlasting joy, peace, love, and contentment – heaven. Those who have not turned their life over to Jesus Christ are considered to be in rebellion against God and will spend eternity separated from the comforting Presence of God in a condition of conscious suffering – hell.
